   vocal making barks, whistles and sqeals to communicate.

      Their long tails may be held upright and 'flagged' for visual
                contact in low undergrowth.

This species is found in south-west USA, Mexico,
      Central and South America.

  American River Otter

    Lontra canadensis

Similar in appearance and behaviour to the European Otter, the American Otter is much larger.

          Truely amphibious, it is well adapted for swimming and diving with eyes able to see underwater;
    webbed feet and a flatter tail acting as a rudder.

         Of the 15 or so species of otter around the world this is probably one of the most numerous.
