Can the animals contract the virus? What are you doing to protect them?

Global experts currently do not know all of the effects COVID-19 has on humans and animals. We have been closely monitoring the situation and following the recommended guidelines provided by the UK Government and World Health Organisation (WHO), and Amazona Zoo staff have been keeping an eye on the latest research and evidence with the aim of trying to understand how the virus may affect animals. Our expert team of keepers and on hand vets are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of all animals and staff at the zoo, and strict biosecurity measures are in place (and have been for a very long time!). During this difficult time, our dedicated team continues to ensure that all animals under their care enjoy the same amount of love and attention that they are used to receiving all year round.

Are there any other changes?

You will notice some perspex sections at some of the animals enclosures, this is just an added precaution we have taken and the animals can still be seen.

Do I need to wear a mask, gloves or PPE?

No, you don't, but we respect your right to if you want to. You may see some staff wearing masks; this is to protect animals like primates that they may be working closely with. We have provided additional hand sanitising stations all around the Park, by gates and toilet blocks. Do make use of handwashing facilities.

Is there anything else I need to consider before I visit?

Please check our website for further info. Do not visit if you feel unwell in any way or if someone in your household has had Covid19 in the last 14 days or if you know you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive.
