The Great horned owl, also known as the tiger owl is a powerful predator that can take down birds and mammals even larger than itself, but it also dines on daintier fare such as tiny scorpions, mice, and frogs. It is a large owl native to the Americas. It’s primary diet is rabbits and hares, rats and mice, and voles, although it freely hunts any animal it can overtake.
It has long, earlike tufts, intimidating yellow-eyed stare, and deep hooting voice.
Did you know owls can’t move their eyes? Instead, they can swivel their heads more than 180 degrees to look in any direction.
